Proof population
A proof population is a live audience against which a venture is tested — real participants with real alternatives, as distinct from a waitlist, a testnet or an incentivised cohort.
A waitlist proves interest in a description. Nothing else.
The category has an unusually bad record of mistaking incentivised behaviour for demand. Airdrops, testnets and rewards campaigns all generate activity that disappears the moment the incentive does, and every cycle relearns this.
A proof population has three properties: the participants are there for a reason other than the reward, they have somewhere else to go, and their behaviour is measured after the incentive stops. Fail any one and the signal is noise.
This is the second thing the studio structure supplies and the one founders underrate. Distribution to a live audience converts a launch from a hypothesis into a measurement — and unproven distribution is the failure mode the whole structure exists to eliminate.
