W4-021 · Condition 03 — Redeemable value

Settlement reality

Settlement reality is the test of whether value claimed by a system actually clears into something the holder wanted — the single measurement that distinguishes an economy from a simulation of one.

Ask what settled, not what was transacted.

Transaction volume is the category’s most abused metric because it is trivially manufacturable and correlates with nothing. Two agents passing a unit back and forth produce volume. Nothing settles.

Settlement reality asks a narrower question: over a period, what proportion of claimed value converted into a good, service or experience the holder actually took delivery of? It is harder to measure and impossible to fake without delivering something.

The studio treats it as the primary indicator of the third condition, and it is the measurement the group is unusually placed to publish, because it operates a redemption path and can observe what actually clears.
