Persistent-world labour

Persistent-world labour is work performed inside a virtual world by agents holding identity and authority — venues that stay open, services that continue, and operators that transact when no human is present.

A world with no workforce is open for business only while humans are awake.

This is the intersection that makes worlds economically continuous rather than episodic. Human-operated virtual economies have the activity profile of their population’s waking hours, which makes them thin, timezone-bound and fragile to attention.

Agent labour changes the profile without changing the world. The venue stays open, the market keeps quoting, the service answers. The economics of a place with continuous activity are categorically different from one with peaks.

It also creates the first genuinely new job category of the convergence: designing, authorising and supervising in-world agent labour — which is a role that does not exist yet and will.
